I could have hashed a comic up super fast, but I thought it’d be better to just show you what I worked on today.
The Janitor has mellowed out considerably it appears.. He’s also gained weight and is now a healthy bean shape.

But it’s okay to be sad sometimes. It’s not a bad thing to feel that way. It happens to everyone…
If you feel really sad – even if you don’t know why – it’s important you do have someone to talk to. Or some way of letting the sad out. You could write it down, keep a diary. You’ll feel a lot better from doing it. Then when you feel better, you can throw that diary or paper away, and your sadness with it.

When I was feeling really unhappy, I bought this book. I don’t remember why, it’s actually a book sold for children (I soon learned that it’s written for everyone). It arrived, and I read it, I looked at the pictures, and I read it again. It’s not a book glorifying sadness. It’s a picture book that helps, that causes you to think, to consider. It also suggests some realistic, simple ways of coping with it.

I would recommend this book to anyone who’s feeling at the bottom of a barrel, or to teachers, or to you.
If you have a friend, relative or child who feels sad, or who feels they aren’t understood, you could maybe get them this book, and show them it’s okay. Because it is.

Welcome to 2012.

This took me so long to do.
I scanned the inks.
I then printed them out and painted the backgrounds onto the printed paper. I think you’re getting where I’m going with this.
Then I printed again and painted the foreground, scanned and layered it all back together.
Why didn’t I just paint the inks? because I’m not very good at painting and I would have been hacked off to have to keep starting over.

Well here it is. Thanks for sticking with this weird little comic for so long, guys!

Well firstly, the Beans are getting a makeover, all of them!

Nextly, there’s a new emo lemur friend been made to sit with us at Thought Bubble 2011!

He is 8 inches tall, made by the excellent Helen Davies! She usually makes monsters, and you should check out her website here: http://helenmakes.blogspot.com – She does use some swearing, so view at your discretion!

Thirdly, I have been doing some making! Acryclic charms and badges! These were supposed to be all packaged up by now, but I’ve been working on 200 in my spare time. Next week I’ll show packaging!

This is a sort of preview as to what I’m doing this week. All the Beans are getting a slight makeover.

Happy Tuesday! I have completely lost track of what day it is, due to coming home from holiday on a Monday.

You may have noticed that today’s page has a slight change from the usual strip layout. I thought it was about time that I updated the template to be a little better spaced. now there should be larger panels but the same width of strip, which means we get a better view of the Beans’ world.
if you didn’t notice, then it doesn’t really matter, and proves that I just worry unduly!
I’ll be pulling a variety of little tweaks this week to mark the passing of #200

Goodbye Elisabeth Sladen, I hope you knew even a fraction of how much the world loved you and your character.
There is a terrible sadness for many fans, but I also want to celebrate what we still have, in all those episodes we were given. The outpouring of wonderful stories about Elisabeth too, are truly heartwarming.

As many others did, I came late to Doctor Who, being only in my late teens when the new series kicked off. We didn’t know who Sarah Jane was, but when we saw her appear in an episode alongside David Tennant’s Doctor, we knew we liked her. She was something different, and something special.
My boyfriend being of an older (more fortunate) generation than mine, gently introduced me to Jon Pertwee and Sarah Jane. My first “oldie” Who was Sarah Jane meeting the first Sontaran in 1973! I was captivated.
She was a different kind of female lead, especially in her own series. Strong without being some kind of Tomb Raider, and gentle without being patronising.

Why the window? It’s always there in Sarah Jane Adventures, in that wonderful attic. I just think it symbolises a lot about SJA, that it was looking up at the sky, into the night. Looking to see something new, watching for something dangerous… Or a little blue box, perhaps.

It took me a while to finish this, as I drew it from memory, with a ruler and some pens rather than a computer. It was very therapeutic. I wanted to draw this rather than Beans looking sad, or my original idea, which turns out John Kovalic also had, and did a lot better than I was capable of! (Here)
I got the number of stained glass panels wrong by one in the lower half, and I am not happy with the VWORP blues but sometimes you just have to stop fiddling with things before you do more harm than good!

It’s been a long time coming this one. And I think you guys have probably noticed that I’m rubbish at updating the site. I apologise, and hopefully I’ll get back on track.

Right now I’ve got a giant throbbing idea in my head that’s trying to take over. It’s a fantasy comic book I’ve been planning for about six or seven years. Any time I sit down to draw, it starts shouting and demanding attention. Almost like I need to blow my nose and clear out this massive headache of art and writing.
And my little beans sit, and they wait patiently for me to finish. The problem is I haven’t really started.

Also I’m hand drawing #200 as a sort of karmic payback for neglecting them.
